[ He looks surprised for a second, but then he grins. He had assumed she'd be the type who rarely laughed, but-- that was a pretty dumb joke. So clearly he had assumed wrong.

He pats her on the shoulder as he passes by. ]

[ She rolls her eyes, but the grin stays on her face as she follows after him ]

You know, you remind me of someone back home.

[ He tilts his head, curious. ] I'm hoping that's in a good way.

Right. Aside from the trapping me in a weird-- purple thing with your mind.

Notice I didn't set you on fire, though.

For which I'll be eternally grateful, now that I know that it was a possibility.

I imagine it wouldn't have done wonders for first impressions.

Yeah, pretty sure it'd be less an impression and more a pile of ash and a soot stain on the ground.

And piles of ash don't help you shoot skags in creepy-ass tunnels.

[ He grins behind his helmet. ]

[ she just laughs again ]

Sure, Peter. We're having a "moment".

See? Getting trapped in a possibly alternate dimension with no discernible means of escape isn't so bad. It means you get to make brand new friends.

I could do without the "trapped" part. The last person who tried to trap me anywhere got a face full of lead for his troubles.

[ -- And that's a story he wants to hear, but-- he doesn't press. He's learned the hard way (and more than once, even) that it's dangerous to pry into someone's past if they're not willing to share.

[ She just sort of... looks at him for a moment. "Assmuch" and "Brother Sophis" were not two things she ever though she'd hear in the same sentence ]

[ He shrugs a shoulder, as if to say, "It's a gift." ]

I've been told I provide a unique perspective on things.

[ In a sense, anyway. Usually in conjunction with a suggestion as to where he can cram his perspective. ]

If you knew him, "assmunch" would be the last word you'd think of.

Kind of fitting, though.

[ And he says it lightly, in case she'd prefer to brush it off or change the topic. ]

[ it's not a topic she minds talking about, really. ]

Was it as bad as this place?

What, the Abbey? [ she falls silent a moment, considering this ]

It was a pretty cage, but in the end, that's what it was. It took me twenty-seven years to realize it, though.

At lease this place is honest about what it is.

[ He hums his agreement. ] Yeah, it's just missing the metal bars and handcuffs. Then we'd have a party.

[ After a second, he blinks, then tilts his head curiously. ]

Were you, like, a nun or something?

[ pffft ] Hardly.

I was raised by the Brothers at the Abbey to "protect the people of Athenas", and I believed them until they asked me to murder people for not paying their tithe.

So I shot the Head Monk and left.

[ -- well. He got his story. ]

What a bunch of assholes. [ And he says it with feeling. He feels like he's qualified to make that determination, seeing as how he's an asshole himself. ]
