[ It takes Charlie all of one second to decide to lie down next to Peter, mindful of his bruises as he curls close. ]

Mm. Just let me know if there's anything you need.

[ He smiles a little, appreciating the contact -- especially since just a few minutes ago, Charlie was on the brink of storming out. ]

What if I need you to do a stupid dance and sing an equally stupid song?

[ He's quiet for a second, then, ]

[ He puffs out air between his lips. ]

I'd do a silly dance for you.

[ granted, he does silly dances all the time, so maybe that's not saying much. ]

Truly, I am touched by the depths of your devotion.

[ He rolls his eyes at that with a quiet, "tch."

For a moment, he's quiet, almost as though he's fallen asleep, but eventually-- ]

Listen. I'm sorry I got pissed at you earlier. [ -- and his voice is soft. Hesitant. ] It's-- after the shit with those fucking psychopaths-- [ He means the Kree, of course ] --I didn't wanna put you on anyone else's radar.

[ Charlie shifts a little, bringing a hand up to gently comb through Peter's hair ] I know. I'm sorry, too, for jumping the gun like I did.

... Nah. Probably for the best you did. [ Quick, write this down: the day Peter Quill admitted he was wrong. ]

-- He was probably gonna kill me.

... I'm sorry, Peter.

[ He shakes his head, trying for a confident smirk. ]

Hey, no big deal. Those dudes have been threatenin' to eat me for years. It was only a matter of time 'fore they actually acted on it.

Nobody wants to believe their family would actually kill them, no matter how shitty that family is. I know that better than anybody.

[ -- ah, fuck.

He goes silent and still, staring up at the ceiling -- and for a while there, his face is inscrutable.

But then he lets out a trembling breath and rolls toward Charlie, pulls him in closer. ]

Fuck those guys. We've got a better family now, anyway.

I-- yeah. [ he loops his arms around Peter, burying his face in the crook of his neck ] Yeah we do.
