Dude, if you wanna make a home outta this place? It's aaaaall yourself. I'd just, uh, be careful. In case the guys who drew these come back anytime soon.
[ From all the bones, it doesn't seem like this place has been used in quite some time, but still. Prompto indicates one of the pictures, where there is definitely a handful of bodies being laid to rest. ]
[ Peter winces at the painting in question. Yeah, that's definitely creepy as hell, made all the more creepy by the fact that immediately next to it is another painting depicting what looks to be a big, bountiful beast. ]
In fairness to me, I don't see their names written anywhere around here.
[ So, you know, "Finders, keepers. Losers, weepers." So say the ancient tenets of schoolyard ownership. ]
What do you think? Too spooky to set up camp for the night?
[ In Prompto's (expert) opinion, anywhere that is not a house with a warm bed is too spooky/dangerous/uncomfortable/cold/etc to camp for the night, but then again, he has slept in worse places than this. Not that that's particularly comforting when they're in a skull cave surrounded by unsettling paintings, but it puts things in perspective. ]
Ehh, I've seen worse! [ ...And there other options aren't great. ] Besides, where else are we gonna sleep? The boat?
[ Peter snorts out a laugh, using his boot to shove a small pile of bones and tools to one side, as if to clear up some space on the ground. ]
I mean, it's an option. Can't imagine that'd be too comfortable for more than a couple people, but, you know. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
[ Prompto follows suit, though he's particularly reluctant to nudge a pile of definitely human skulls out of the middle of the floor. These belonged to someone once...and now they're just pushing them casually out of the way. ]
But...what if it sunk, or somethin'? I'll take bones 'n' curses over drownin'.
[ For Peter's part, it doesn't seem like this is his first time dealing with the creepy remnants of some ancient civilization – or if it is, he apparently doesn't have much of a problem with shoving around remains.
RIP in pieces, old bones. ]
Could always bring the boats ashore. It'll probably minimize the drowning risk.
[ Like, taking a quick nap in the weird sacrifice-skull-cave isn't for everyone, and Peter fully acknowledges that. ]
[ Taking a nap in a weird sacrifice-skull-cave shouldn't be for anyone, and Prompto's expression says as much. Ooor maybe that's because of the casual way Peter shoves the bones aside. He is definitely going to bring a curse down on them... ]
Dude! Do you want to be haunted? 'Cause it sure looks like it!
[ And it's fine if he does, he just better keep the haunting to himself! ]
[ But, you know, Peter might say he’s already kind of a walking jinx, considering all the shit that happened back home. What’s a little ancient sacrificial chamber mojo on top of it, right? ]
Aliens? Sure. But ghosts? C’mon, man. Are you being serious right now?
[ There’s no such thing in ghosts, unless you’re Obi-Wan Kenobi or one of the Ghostbusters – and tragically, neither Prompto nor Peter are either of those folks. ]
Okay, when you put it like that - [ Actually. ] - Yeah, he kinda was a grave robber, now that I think about it! Buuut they were his ancestors, so I guess it's okay? And he controls them by...
[ He vaguely waves his arms around for a moment, as if that is somehow...descriptive, and then whispers dramatically: ]
[ It doesn't sound better. It sounds like taking advantage of a bunch of dead guys.
But maybe Peter doesn't have room to judge, considering he's still kind of planning on moving aside a few more bones to make room for a campfire and a sleeping area. ]
[ ...Prompto stops to consider this for a moment. He's never really questioned it before! He just sorta...went along with it. ]
I think it was kinda like...a "prove yourself worthy" sort of thing? Y'know. He had to earn his way in and then the ghost kings were like, "here's a super powerful axe, use it wisely". Just like in a video game!

Way serious! I mean - there's at least spirits of dead royal dudes hangin' around back home. You count those as ghosts?
[ Not to mention his BFF has an armory of ghost swords?? It's complicated... ]

Wait, are you bein' serious? Like they're just... hanging out?
[ what do they do all day..... . . ]

[ The specifics are a little lost on him. He's just the guy with the guns. ]

[ Wow okay Peter has fifty more questions. HERE WE GO, PROMPTO-BUDDY. STRAP IN. ]
So, like, the prince is a grave robber? Or, like— are they spirit weapons? Ghost weapons? If they’re ghost weapons, can you even touch them?
How does that even work?
