Eh, well, it's a tough pill to swallow, at first, but then I met a guy who said that magical powers on his Earth are totally a thing, when last I checked they totally weren't. It's around then that I started thinking maybe the alternate worlds theory held some water.

I guess I'll withhold judgement for the moment, but I'll keep that in mind.

This place is probably going to keep surprising me for a while, I'm sure.

[ At first, Peter only responds with a noncommittal hum as he kicks the hell out of a lizard thing skittering its way towards them. It hits the opposite wall with a satisfying thunk. ]

Oh, hey, anyone tell you about the writing thing?

That it's not allowed? Yeah, someone mentioned it. Clark, I think his name was.

[ He nods. ] Yeah, although apparently it's all good in Haven North, where we're headed. So, you know, you get an urge to write a novel? Better get ready for a two hour trip.

I heard there was a library there. [ was that a twinkle in her eye at the word "library"? it might have been ] I'd like to check it out.

[ He says it before he realizes it, ] Really? What for?

[phaselocknroll]

For the books? Why else would anyone want to go to a library?

[nostalgiabomb]

[ His nose wrinkles behind his mask. ]

It just sounds boring, is all.

[phaselocknroll]

You're not a reader, I take it.

[nostalgiabomb]

[ With mock innocence, ] I have no idea where you got that idea from. I read War and Peace just yesterday.

[phaselocknroll]

[ She's guessing that's another Earth thing, but it's easy enough to infer the meaning. ]

Did you, now? Tell me, what was your favorite part?

[nostalgiabomb]

[ Without missing a beat, ]

Definitely the War. But the Peace comes in a close second.

[phaselocknroll]

[ Good job Peter, you got a legitimate laugh out of her. ]

I suppose I walked right into that one.

[nostalgiabomb]

[ He looks surprised for a second, but then he grins. He had assumed she'd be the type who rarely laughed, but-- that was a pretty dumb joke. So clearly he had assumed wrong.

He pats her on the shoulder as he passes by. ]

Happens to the best of us.

[ She rolls her eyes, but the grin stays on her face as she follows after him ]

You know, you remind me of someone back home.

[ He tilts his head, curious. ] I'm hoping that's in a good way.

[phaselocknroll]

If it was in a bad way, I'd be substantially less friendly towards you.

Right. Aside from the trapping me in a weird-- purple thing with your mind.

Notice I didn't set you on fire, though.

For which I'll be eternally grateful, now that I know that it was a possibility.

I imagine it wouldn't have done wonders for first impressions.

Yeah, pretty sure it'd be less an impression and more a pile of ash and a soot stain on the ground.

And piles of ash don't help you shoot skags in creepy-ass tunnels.
